All EVs come fitted with a BMS (Battery Management System). The main function of a Battery Management System for electric vehicles is to protect the battery in order to prevent operations outside its safe operating area. Battery monitoring by estimating the battery pack state of charge (SoC) and state of health (SoH) during charging and discharging.
Only Rapid Charging with no BMS can damage an EV battery. These rapid chargers can either be AC or DC. However, the battery management systems in vehicles are set to limit the level of power received to prevent accelerated degradation, thus fast DC charging does not damage the battery life.
